Abstract

Global tourism is seen as a significant instrument for economic growth and development. The State of Jammu And Kashmir enjoys a unique position among the world's major tourism attractions. The well renowned Pir Panjal range is noted for its magnificent pure water lakes (named Sar) and vast green pastures Lesser Himalyas (called Margs). It covers 900 m2 with 27 large and small lakes and 12 meadows, all above the sea level at 12000 ft. In this article the author has attempted to discover Pir Panjal Range's unknown tourist spots by performing an initial study. More unusual and stunning are the results that despite their emotional attractiveness, the region notes relatively few tourists and the number of visitors in recent years has constantly decreased. This decrease is attributed to urbanisation, government employment and so on, in particular among Nomads, who stayed in the region with their livestock every year for 3-4 months (called Dhoks).
